The "Ryder" mission is one of the earliest story missions in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, unlocked shortly after CJ returns to Grove Street. It introduces two mechanics players will use throughout the game: drive-by shooting and timed food delivery — and it's infamous for tripping up new players on the second half.
You'll find this mission by walking into the marker outside Ryder's house on Grove Street. Once triggered, CJ and Ryder set off on a drive that combines a gang-territory shootout with an oddly specific fast-food order.

Hold the drive-by aim button and keep your view toward whichever side the Ballas vehicles approach from — they'll usually come up on the right side of the road. Don't waste ammo on pedestrians; only gang-affiliated vehicles count as threats. If you're using a controller or wheel with limited buttons, remap drive-by aim to a shoulder button before starting — it makes tracking targets much smoother.
Part 2 — The Cluckin' Bell order (the part everyone fails) This is where most players fail the mission the first time. Ryder will shout out a food order that changes every playthrough — pay close attention, because you must select the exact items in the drive-thru menu before the timer expires. Common mistakes:
- Selecting the right item but wrong size.
- Missing that Ryder often repeats the order twice — listen through both times if you're unsure.
- Panicking and mashing through the menu, which resets your selection.

- The mission doesn't require perfect health — a few grazes from Ballas gunfire won't fail the mission, so don't panic-swerve.
