GTA 6 could let players play GTA 2 and other classic games inside Leonida

The rumored feature would essentially turn GTA 6 into a small celebration of Rockstar's history. Instead of launching a separate game, players could potentially walk into an arcade, interact with a computer or cabinet, and play a classic GTA experience within the GTA 6 world.

The idea would not be entirely unprecedented. Other games have previously allowed players to interact with playable retro titles inside the main game. Fans have also pointed to examples such as Uncharted 4, Wolfenstein, and the Yakuza series, where classic or fictional games can be played as part of the experience.

But Is GTA 2 Actually Coming to GTA 6?

There is currently no official confirmation from Rockstar Games.

The claim appears to be circulating primarily through social media and gaming-community discussions. There is currently no official Rockstar announcement confirming that GTA 2, GTA 1, GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, or any other classic GTA title will be playable inside GTA VI.

That means the alleged 4K versions should also be treated cautiously.

Rockstar's official GTA VI website currently focuses on the game's modern Vice City and the wider state of Leonida, along with protagonists Jason and Lucia. It does not list playable classic GTA games as a feature.

A Perfect Nostalgia Feature for GTA Fans

If the rumor turns out to be true, it could become one of GTA 6's most interesting side activities.

Imagine discovering an old arcade somewhere in Leonida, sitting down at a machine and suddenly playing a visually enhanced version of GTA 2. Rockstar could even hide different classic games throughout the enormous open world, turning them into collectibles or secret discoveries.

Fans have already been discussing similar possibilities, including playable retro games and references to previous Rockstar titles.

There is also plenty of room for Rockstar to create fictional versions of its older games, rather than directly including the originals. This would allow the studio to reference its history while maintaining GTA's tradition of parody and satire.

What About GTA 5 Inside GTA 6?

Some fans have taken the idea even further, joking about being able to play GTA 5 inside GTA 6.

While that is obviously speculation, it highlights how much players enjoy the idea of Rockstar turning GTA VI into a celebration of the franchise's history.

A more realistic possibility could be fictional retro games inspired by older Rockstar titles, similar to how previous GTA games have included fictional television programs, video games, websites and other entertainment within their worlds.

Rockstar's Priority Is GTA 6

For now, Rockstar's confirmed focus remains the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI, which is officially scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Until Rockstar confirms the retro-game feature, players should treat the GTA 2 claim as an unverified rumor rather than confirmed GTA 6 information.

Still, if Rockstar really does allow players to fire up a classic GTA game inside Leonida, it could be one of the coolest Easter eggs in the franchise's history.
