89% of GTA 6 Pre-Orders Are Reportedly for the $100 Ultimate Edition
Grand Theft Auto 6 is proving that Rockstar Games may have created something more powerful than a video game: a game that fans are willing to pay a premium for before they have even played it.
According to new data from digital intelligence firm Sensor Tower, approximately 89% of early GTA 6 pre-orders are reportedly for the $99.99 Ultimate Edition, rather than the $79.99 Standard Edition.
That figure is extraordinary compared with the wider gaming industry, where premium editions typically represent only around 10% to 20% of pre-orders.
GTA 6 Players Are Choosing the More Expensive Version
Rockstar Games offers GTA 6 in two main digital editions.
The Standard Edition costs $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition is priced at $99.99.
Despite the $20 difference, early buyers appear to be heavily favoring the more expensive option.
Sensor Tower executive Karl Kontus described the premium share as something the company has rarely seen in its years of tracking game sales.
However, there is an important caveat.
The 89% figure is an estimate, not an official Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive sales figure. Take-Two has confirmed that GTA 6 pre-orders are unprecedented, but the company has not released the exact number of pre-orders.
Why Are Gamers Paying $100?
The simplest explanation may be GTA's enormous fanbase.
Grand Theft Auto V was released in 2013 and has remained one of the industry's biggest games for more than a decade.
That means many players have been waiting years for a completely new Grand Theft Auto experience.
For the most dedicated fans, an extra $20 may seem relatively small compared with the anticipation surrounding GTA 6.
The Ultimate Edition also includes additional digital content, giving early buyers more than simply the base game.

GTA 6 Is Testing How Much Gamers Are Willing to Pay
The bigger story isn't simply that GTA 6 is selling well.
It is what the numbers could mean for the entire AAA gaming industry.
If gamers continue choosing premium editions at this rate, publishers could interpret the results as evidence that major franchises can successfully support higher-priced editions.
That could encourage more publishers to introduce $90 or $100 premium versions of their biggest games.
For players, however, this raises an important question:
Are gamers getting more value, or are publishers discovering that fans are willing to pay more for content that could once have been included in the standard game?
Rockstar Has Another Major GTA 6 Reveal Coming
The pre-order story arrives at an especially interesting time.
Rockstar and Take-Two are preparing another major promotional push for GTA 6.
Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on August 27, 2026, before becoming available on YouTube several hours later.
Fans are hoping the extended look will contain substantial new gameplay footage.
If Rockstar shows significant new material, the renewed hype could potentially push even more players toward pre-orders.

The $100 Question
GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The game has already demonstrated enormous commercial power before launch.
But whether the reported 89% Ultimate Edition share remains this high after more casual players begin purchasing the game is another question.
Sensor Tower expects the premium share to change as the wider audience begins buying GTA 6 rather than the most dedicated early adopters.
For now, however, one thing is clear:
GTA 6 fans don't appear to be letting the $100 price tag stop them.
What do you think?
Would you pay $99.99 for the GTA 6 Ultimate Edition, or is the $79.99 Standard Edition already too expensive?
